Creating Museum Trails and Resources

In person event exploring how museums can design effective, educational, site specific trails and resources for their museum.

About this event

Jessica Hartshorn will lead this in person event, exploring how museums can design effective, educational, site specific trails and resources for their museum. The day will include a combination of presentation, discussion and practical activities, including the opportunity to get crafty!

Learning Objectives:

As a result of attending this event delegates will identify and discuss:

  • Different types of trails

  • Practical considerations for designing an effective trail

  • Pitching content for different audiences and linking to the national curriculum

  • How they can make resources accessible for users

  • Opportunities for co-curating or testing trails with users

Catering and refreshments will be provided. The day will include regular breaks and the opportunity for networking with colleagues from other organisations.

This event supports the Arts Council England Inclusivity and Relevance Investment Principle.

About the trainer

'Jessi Illustrates ' works with museums, art galleries and learning teams to bring heritage, nature and art collections to life through bespoke illustrations and education resources. Jessica creates unique educational resources, including PowerPoints, activity booklets, trails and maps alongside delivering workshops to schools and the public.

Past clients include National Paralympic Heritage Trust, Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery, Historic England, World Golf Museum, Gunnersbury Park and Museum, The British Motor Museum, Delapre Abbey, Fydell House, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Sporting Heritage, Carlisle Cathedral and Ladbroke Heritage.

Who should attend?

This training is aimed at museum staff and volunteers that may be involved with developing or commissioning learning resources for schools or families.

Maximum two delegates per organisation. Priority will be given to delegates from non-NPO and non-National museums in the Midlands which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation.

The main booking form questions will appear after you have been through the 'check out' process. If you do not complete this form we will be in contact and reserve the right to cancel your ticket if we do not receive a response.

Accessibility

This event will be held at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery.
The entrance on Guildhall Road has level access and automatic doors. The Studio is accessible on the same floor as the main entrance.
Lifts go to all floors. All areas are accessible for wheelchairs.
Two accessible toilets are on the upper ground floor—one near the cafe and one near the shop. Ask staff for directions. The nearest Changing Places toilet is at North Gate Bus Station.
Hearing loops are at reception, the cafe counter, the shop till and in The Studio. Please let MDM know if you require a hearing loop for this event.

All participants will receive an email containing a Zoom link to the training prior to the event. The email will be sent to the email address used for booking. If you have not received an email the day before the event please contact us.
