Engaging Online Audiences on Social Media

This session will explore why and how to engage audiences on social media. It will cover the purpose of social media engagement, how to prioritise and choose platforms, how to create a content plan and how to evaluate social media activity. It will also explore the latest research, trends, challenges and opportunities for museums; including changes to algorithms, stagnating metrics, and key changes to audiences’ behaviours and what that means for museums. The session will showcase effective content and inspirational ideas from a range of museums.

Learning Objectives

As a result of attending, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the shifting landscape of social media engagement

  • Feel more confident in planning and evaluating their social media content

  • Create a social media content plan

The session will not be covering details on how to create or post content, but will signpost to resources on this.

The event will be delivered via Zoom using a range of exercises and interactive features including Chat and Breakout Rooms, and will include a short break. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and actively participate in discussion. If you have any concerns about accessibility or usability for these features please contact enquiries@mdmidlands.org.uk
